Weather trend - Much more changeable than of late

A change in the weather lies ahead as Atlantic low pressure takes over, bringing spells of wind and rain through most of next week.

The long-lasting high pressure which has been bringing us the quiet, but often dull weather recently is on its way out.

A first frontal system is expected to bring outbreaks of rain this weekend, first in Ireland on Saturday, then in the UK later this weekend as well.

Winds will also increase at times, especially around many western and southwestern coasts, where gusts could reach up to 50 mph in places.

Into next week and the changeable conditions remain thanks to a much more active jet stream above our area.

This means additional low pressure systems are likely to be influential, with further rain or blustery showers at times.

A potentially stronger system might affect the UK and Ireland around Wednesday or Thursday with more widespread gales, though details are unclear at this stage.

Temperatures meanwhile will broadly remain around the average, but stronger winds may make it feel colder on some days as well, especially near coasts and over higher ground.
