Storm Éowyn has been named

Gales across Ireland, and parts of the UK, by Friday.

Storm Éowyn has now been named, bringing strong gale-force winds to the UK and Ireland from Friday.

The system begins to make an impact early Friday morning, and lasts into Saturday, with wind gusts approaching 80 mph.

These are likely to peak across Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.

Heavy rainfall, and snow in northern England to southern Scotland, also accompany the strong winds.

Travel disruption to air and rail is expected, with roads also likely to see blockages from falling trees and debris.

Éowyn becomes the fifth named storm of the current season.
