Storm Debi, the fourth named storm of the season is bringing damaging winds and flooding to parts of the UK and Ireland today.

Storm Debi will continue to bring disruptive, high winds and heavy rain through today to the UK and Ireland as it tracks eastwards from Ireland, through the Irish Sea and into southern Scotland.

Storm Debi will continue to track eastwards in the coming hours, clearing later into the North Sea. In the meantime, the strongest gusts are now expected to become focused to Cumbria and Lancashire.

River levels have risen on the Rivers Greta, St Johns Beck and Bassenthwaite Lake in Cumbria, with a total of 13 Flood Alerts in place and 1 Flood Warning across the north-west England region.

High tides and powerful waves have also been spotted along the coast of Cumbria in Whitehaven, with overtopping and large amounts of sea spray here.

Speed restrictions are now in place on some rail lines in Scotland due to disruption caused by Storm Debi. Other routes have seen trains cancelled entirely due to flooding on the track, this includes the Dumfries to Sanquhar line.

Network Rail say that travel on the network is likely to be impacted until 08:00 am Tuesday morning.

In Ireland, portions of multiple seawalls have collapsed in the west. Including a 100-metre-long section running from Oranmore to Galway.

Midday update

Powerful waves have washed ashore boats to the coast of Galway. The Irish government has also announced that the financial aid scheme initially created for Cork residents after Ciarán, has now been extended to cover Co Galway.

In Belfast, a woman is in hospital after being struck by debris flying through in the wind. International flights due in to Shannon Airport have also been diverted.

11am

Winds remaining strong across Northern Ireland with trees being torn out the ground. With the storm tracking eastwards the strong winds are also transferring and extending eastwards.

Winds across the Isle of Man are ramping up and reaching around 70 mph here too. Also in the Isle of Man, flights and sailings have been cancelled. Roads have also been closed due to downed trees and damage.

10am

With wind gusts now reaching around 60 mph across parts of Northern Ireland at present, flights have been diverted from Belfast to Edinburgh.

In Northern Ireland the police service have advised people stay home today where possible, due to felled trees and debris on many roads. A landslide has also occurred in Glenarm, Northern Ireland, currently blocking traffic.

100,000 homes across Ireland are also without power. Salthill and Galway is also badly flooded from heavy rain. Water levels in Galway are reporting higher than normal.

Across Wales, winds are also strengthening across exposed, high ground with Aberdaron reaching 77 mph, Capel Curig reaching 71 mph and Mumbles Head 62 mph. Needles on the Isle of Wight has also gusted to 65 mph.
