Split: Wet in the north, dry down south

Weather map showing heavy rain over Scotland and Ireland, dry but overcast in England and Wales.
A tale of two halves, dry and overcast in the south-east and heavy rain in the north-west.

Another day of heavy rain for those in Scotland, as gusting winds continue to build across the UK and Ireland.

Kickstarting your morning

Welcome to the breakfast brief, offer a first look at today's weather and a sneak peek of the day's news.

Weather outlook

The day is marked by heavy and persistent rainfall over Scotland, Northern Ireland, and parts of north-west Ireland. Flood alerts are live across western Scotland, with weather warnings for rain also cover the area.

Elsewhere, some light rainfall also reaches Wales by the afternoon, though it remains mostly dry across England.

Winds strengthen throughout the day, growing strongest along western Ireland tonight, where exposed areas such as Belmullet could see gusts reaching 60 mph.

What's coming up in the news

We're keeping an eye on the heavy rain pushing over Scotland throughout the day, as well as the growing winds across the country.
