Lightning struck not one but two skyscrapers during a recent thunderstorm in New York. How common is that?

On Wednesday evening, 26th June, a lightning bolt struck both the Empire State Building and the One World Trade Center in New York City.

A powerful line of thunderstorms rolled through the area, striking two skyscrapers. Lightning striking tall buildings is relatively common, with the One World Trade Center standing at a height of around 541 metres, while the Empire State Building is around 381 metres high.
