Weather trend: Dry and fine at times, but some showers, too. Perhaps warming up later

Weather trend
Dry spells and showers, warmer later

The new week starts on a stormy note as an unusually deep low pressure system for the time of year moves across. Things will then remain a little unsettled afterwards.

An unusually strong area of low pressure, named "Floris", will affect most of the UK and Ireland on Monday and partly into early Tuesday.

Winds could reach gale-force across northern parts in particular, which may have higher than usual impacts given the time of year and holiday season.

Tuesday looks set to remain cool and windy with some showery outbreaks, though things should slowly quieten down later in the afternoon.

A ridge of high pressure wll briefly bring dry and fine weather for many on Wednesday, with long spells of sunshine.

This will not last long, however, as further Atlantic fronts look set to bring further clouds and some rain or showers during the second half of next week.

Looking ahead, there are chances for high pressure and warmer air to become more dominant again, with temperatures perhaps rising to 25°C and above during the weekend and into the week after next at times.
