Weather trend
Slightly unsettled, average temperatures

The month will end on a mixed note, with some fine spells, but rain or showers moving through as well. Temperatures meanwhile should remain around average.

A ridge of high pressure is set to become a little more dominant on Monday, bringing a good deal of dry weather with a mix of sun and cloud.

A few spots of rain or drizzle are possible, however, mainly in Ireland and parts of Scotland, where cloud cover is likely to be more extensive.

Conditions will then become more changeable again on Tuesday and Wednesday as weak Atlantic weather systems move through.

This westerly to northwesterly flow is likely to continue into the second half of next week, keeping temperatures around or just below normal at times.

Into the first weekend of August, low pressure should remain influential, perhaps even with some heavier, thundery showers in places.

While not ideal for holidaymakers, the rain may be welcomed by gardeners or farmers as soils have been very dry in some parts of the UK in particular.

Looking further ahead into the first week of August, no major pattern change seems likely and it may remain fairly unsettled.

There is however a tendency for high pressure to become more dominant again eventually, with longer fine and dry spells possible, especially across the south and southeast.
