The mercury is on the rise through Wednesday with temperatures set to hit their peak this week.

Temperatures for the month of August so far have generally been above average, particularly further south and east, with central and western Scotland, north-west England and large parts of Ireland running below.

This week on the whole to end the month is seeing temperatures around the mid-twenties, though with mid-week, Wednesday 28th, seeing the peak of the temperatures this week.

So far, temperatures have reached a maximum with the top five of the day listed below, which will continue to be updated throughout the day.

It doesn't look like any records will be broken however, with the date record for the 28th August held at 33.9°C in Rickmansworth, from 1930.
