Roland Garros faces scorching heat

Weather maps showing general conditions and temperatures of ParisParis is feeling the summer heat early as the French Open begins.

The second tennis grand slam of the year is here, and conditions in Paris could not be better.

Despite missing king of the clay Rafael Nadal this year, Roland Garros always conjures excitement. This time led by top seeds Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP draw and world number 1 Iga Świątek in the WTA draw who seeks to retain her title.

Day one sees Paris sweltering under the sun, temperatures approach 25°C by afternoon with little cloud cover to offer relief.

Hot, dry, and mostly calm

Mild winds gust up to speeds of around 20 mph through the day which could make things tricky on outer courts exposed to the elements.

Monday sees slightly stronger winds, up to 30 mph but otherwise conditions remain hot and dry for players as the tournament starts.

Things may take a turn next week, though. From Friday, June 2 temperatures soar further towards 28°C before thunderstorms interrupt play on the Sunday following.

Just one court at the Stade Roland Garros is fitted with a roof meaning delays are likely.
