Kickstarting your morning

Welcome to the Breakfast Brief, offering your first forecast of the day and a look back at what you may have missed.

Weather outlook

Plenty of rain around today, starting from sunrise into the night. Most notably from midday across Ireland, where there is potential for thundery outbreaks in the west. Into the afternoon, we see rain stretch almost cover the UK entirely.

The rain could turn to snow showers in the Scottish Highlands overnight into Friday.

In addition to the heavy rain, gusting winds remain in play too, with highs expected to reach around 50 mph in Dublin and Cardiff simultaneously this afternoon, and possibly up to 60 mph around Liverpool tonight.
