Flood warnings in effect across England

Flood alerts are in place across England’s coasts, primarily for the southeast due to imminent heavy rains and high tides.

Currently in effect are 20 flood alerts, indicating flooding is possible, and one flood warning, indicating flooding is expected.

The warning covers part of the Essex coastline for Coalhouse Fort and the surrounding marshland as strong winds lead to a slight coastal surge.

Thirteen alerts stretch across the southeast coast, from Margate to King’s Lynn, with seven clustered around the source of the River Thames.

Most of these alerts will be lifted later today, although heavy rain expected tomorrow could lead to more being issued before the weekend is over.

If you are covered by an official warning, you can contact your local council for help obtaining sandbags to better secure your property, as well as surrounding the perimeter.

Where travel is disrupted you should take extra measures when driving through flood water.
