Éowyn brings hurricane level gusts

Storm Éowyn arrives overnight, packing hurricane-strength winds over western Ireland and Scotland.

Early tomorrow morning, peak gusts reach up to 120 mph (193 km/h) in coastal, western Ireland close to Kilrush, Co. Clare. At midday on Friday, Bowmore, Islay sees highs around 115 mph.

Under the hurricane classification system, this would officially be a category 3 hurricane if sustained on arrival, had the storm hit the U.S.
