Breakfast brief
Early freeze for UK, mild in Ireland

A 16 degree temperature swing between the UK and Ireland this morning.

For those in the UK, it is a freezing start to Thursday, while in Ireland there is some warmth but rain on the way.

Kickstarting your morning

Welcome to the Breakfast Brief, offering a first look at the day's forecast and a sneak peek at today's news.

Weather outlook

Depending on where you are, the day beings in one of two ways. Freezing cold and dry across the UK, or in the south of Ireland, with rainfall but approaching 10°C such as Bantry.

Contrast this with Stirling, Scotland where it is around -6°C this morning, joining a slew of areas across the UK to feel the chill of minus temperatures. Only the south-west and East Anglia escape the early winter's chill.

As the day turns to night, some showers will form in southern Scotland to northern England, while Ireland sees two distinct bands of rainfall through the day.

What's coming up in the news

Check back later this morning for an update from Iceland, where lava inches ever closer to the Blue Lagoon. Plus, as always, we will be covering any relevant topics that you need to know through the day.
