If you suffer from hay fever, there are a few things you can do to alleviate symptoms.

Alder, birch, and hazel are the three main pollens in spring, while warmer conditions towards the summer produces grass pollens.

So, if your allergies start acting up, here are some hay fever dos and don’ts from the NHS to help ease your symptoms.

Do

One of the simplest methods to ease your symptoms is to not let any pollen into your house. You can do this by staying indoors and keeping your windows and doors closed.

However, if you want to go outside, it is recommended to put a small amount of Vaseline around your nose to trap the pollen before you breathe it in. You should also wash your clothes when you get home to wash the pollen off.

Don't

The NHS also has a list of things you should not do to help with your allergy. They say you should not spend too much time outside, and it is advised not to cut your grass.

While fresh flowers may smell nice, the NHS suggests not having them in your home. Finally, dry your washing inside. This will prevent your clothes catching the pollen outside.

Remember, if your hay fever is particularly bad, or you think you have hay fever, consider going to your GP or your local pharmacy who can recommend the best course of action.
