Windswept Friday as gusts spread wide

Gusts begin to move into the UK from Ireland overnight.

Keep a hand on your hats Friday, winds are picking up across the UK and Ireland, beginning overnight.

The winds begin to grow, along with heavy rainfall in parts of the UK which were felt in Ireland on Thursday, from the early hours of Friday.

Thursday: Rain warnings for Irelandread more

In the early morning, gusts grow to around 40 mph (65 km/h) around Dublin, as the sun rises stronger gusts of around 45 mph will be felt over higher ground such as the Peak District.

Gusts may also reach gale force in coastal areas as well as at altitude. It is not until evening that a short reprieve arrives for England and southern parts of Ireland.

Elsewhere, there is little let up overnight into the weekend before Saturday is again a gusty one.
