Tuesday brings more settled conditions, and a mostly dry day for many but the picture changes overnight.

Welcome to the Breakfast Brief, offering a sneak peek at the day's news and your first forecast.

Weather outlook

Calmer conditions across the UK and Ireland today, with mainly clear skies outside of some showers in the north and western coastal regions.

Temperatures this morning begin in the low single-digits, down to freezing in southern Ireland, and colder in the evening particularly for Scotland where Glasgow will drop to around -3°C.

Overnight, a fresh low-pressure system arrives in the south-west with stronger winds returning and heavy rain spreading north-east throughout the night into Wednesday.
