Gales and chance of fresh flooding

Bert disruption continues
Gales and chance of fresh flooding

Gales continue in places on Monday as Storm Bert departs.

Gale force winds in places will disrupt efforts to aid flooded areas following Storm Bert over the weekend.

Torrential rainfall resulted in around 80% of November's average monthly rainfall in two days, leading to devastating floods. Some locations in South Wales saw up to 170mm of rain in just 48 hours over the weekend, while up to 192mm was recorded on Dartmoor in Devon.

As work continues to help the worst hit areas, including the Rhondda Cynon Taf region where a major incident was declared, the stiff winds provide an additional issue.

The strongest winds rest in Scotland, with gusts reaching around 50 mph for Edinburgh.

In Wales, the gusts are not as strong but are still expected to reach around 35 mph.

Alerts in effect

More than 330 flood warnings and alerts remain in effect across England, with one severe flood warning for the Billing Aquadrome in Northampton.

Run-off from the heavy rainfall this weekend is now flowing through smaller tributaries and eventually reaching larger rivers, exacerbating flood impacts downstream even away from those regions that saw the heaviest of the rain.
