Los Angeles hit by rare tornado

A rare tornado has struck Los Angeles County, California, the strongest to hit the area since 1983.

On Wednesday afternoon, 22nd March, the roof of a business in Montebello, California was damaged by a suspected tornado. Shingles and other debris were lofted across the sky and several cars and buildings were damaged in the process.

Tornado warnings are rare in southern California, but this was not the first potential tornado to strike this week. The day before, a severe thunderstorm was spotted moving into Santa Barbara County.

Moments later, multiple homes in a mobile home park were rocked by ferocious winds. This damaged roofs, windows, and carports on over 20 mobile homes.

The National Weather Service have since confirmed the tornado "briefly touched down" and rated its strength as an EF-1 with winds reaching 110 mph.
