Breakfast brief
North-south split in conditions

Wind map of the UK and Ireland showing a north-south split. Strong winds, with warnings across Scotland, calm across England and Wales.
The split in conditions is notable on the WindRadar today.

A drier day for most, though it does turn gustier for those in northern areas of the UK and Ireland with a pronounced north-south split in conditions.

Kickstarting your morning

Your daily breakfast brief brings you the latest outlook for the day, and a preview of what is coming up in the news!

Weather outlook

The day begins dry for most areas aside from in western Scotland where light, but persistent, rainfall pushes in. This becomes more scattered into the afternoon before spreading again tonight.

Growing winds will be the main feature of the day for those in northern parts of the UK and Ireland, which spread from the north-west of Scotland southwards throughout the day. Strongest gusts of 50 mph to be seen in western Scotland on the WindRadar.

For Wales and much of England, it is a calm, dry day ahead, with highs of approaching 27°C in and around London.

What's coming up in the news

Your Friday weather trend is coming this afternoon, after a flashback to 2004 and the severe flooding that struck parts of Cornwall.

Over the coming days you will also find the weekend weather tomorrow morning, plus the latest collection of user images after another flashback to Storm Betty from last year on Sunday.
