After 10 days of rest, Mount Etna erupted again late Wednesday evening, creating a 10 km high ash cloud.

Ash rained down on nearby villages, while Catania airport was briefly closed until the eruption weakened.

As seen last week, the eruption was clearly visible on our WeatherRadar via its ash cloud.

Etna is currently in an active period with frequent eruptions. The previous taking place on August 5th, this is the sixth eruption since early July.

These short, intense eruptions are known as paroxysm and is typical for the famous volcano on the coast of Sicily, Italy.

Other Italian volcanoes are also active at this time, with activity recorded at Stromboli and Campi Flegrei. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar, you never know when you might spot another eruption!
