Atlantic lows in charge
A blustery week for all

Split image comparing two UK wind forecast maps, with Tuesday 20.01 on the left and Thursday 22.01 on the right, showing colour-coded wind speeds in mph, streamlines, and city labels, with stronger winds highlighted in orange and red across large parts of the UK.There's little respite from the blustery weather this week.

An area of low-pressure moving in from the Atlantic will bring a notably windy day across much of the UK and Ireland on Tuesday, a theme of the week to come.

As the system moves east, strengthening winds will develop through the early morning in Ireland, becoming increasingly blustery by afternoon in the UK too.

The strongest gusts are expected along the Irish Sea coasts, hills, and exposed routes. Here, gusts of up to 55 mph (90 km/h) are likely at times. South-west England also feel the initial force, with slightly stronger gusts of up to 60 mph (97 km/h) in Plymouth.

These conditions could lead to some travel disruption, with difficult driving conditions on exposed roads and bridges, as well as the risk of fallen branches. Coastal areas may also see rough seas and large waves.

Wet and windy conditions will be the theme of the week with consecutive low-pressure areas moving in from the Atlantic.
