A tornado swept through Hampshire on Sunday, destroying buildings, homes and trees.

Following the severe thunderstorms across parts of southern England on Sunday October 23rd, reports have emerged of a tornado amongst the storms, that devastated parts of Hampshire.

The tornado damage was focused to an area around Marwell Zoo and Marwell Manor Farm, near Winchester, where damage has been reported. Due to the extremely localised nature of the high winds, fortunately animals and staff remained unharmed, with the bulk of the damage in the car park.

CCTV footage above captured the tornado tearing through the zoo, just after 4pm.

Tornadoes typically form under powerful cumulonimbus storm clouds where conditions need to be just right, with the UK generally affected by 30-35 tornadoes a year.
