Weather trend
Cool at first, then warmer and thundery

The new week will start off with rather cool and slightly unsettled conditions, but much warmer weather is on the cards.

While high pressure starts to build just to our south and southwest on Monday, things will still be a bit changeable in a westerly flow.

After a cool start to the day, most will see a mixture of sunny spells and cloudier periods, perhaps with some showers here and there as well.

More cloud and rain is likely across Northern Ireland and Scotland on Tuesday as a new weather front moves through.

Meanwhile, drier and more settled weather is set to develop further south and southeast.

By Wednesday, temperatures could already hit 25°C in the south and east of the UK, setting the stage for a warm, but also fairly humid spell later this week.

As is often the case, this means heavy, thundery downpours are never far away, and we may in fact see the first thunderstorm activity late on Wednesday into Wednesday night in some southwestern regions.

Further showers and thunderstorms, though with some hazy sunshine in between, are possible on Thursday and perhaps into early Friday, though details may still change.

Once the thundery outbreaks will have shifted to the east and northeast, thereby pushing away the humid air, temperatures are likely to fall back a bit again into the weekend.

However, this probably won't mean a return to the cool and breezy weather we have seen so far this month.

While some clouds and showers cannot be ruled out, it looks as though nearby high pressure may keep temperatures just above the average for mid-June.
