Firefighters are currently battling numerous forest fires in Greece. On Tuesday alone, over 80 new fires were reported across the country.

The situation is particularly tense near the western Greek city of Patras, in the Preveza region in the north-west of the country, and on the popular holiday islands of Zakynthos and Chios. Many places have been evacuated.

The firefighting efforts are being hampered by strong winds, which are fanning the embers and causing the flames to spread rapidly.
