Weekend outlook
Unsettled as fresh front arrives

Weather map for Saturday 12.09 showing a band of rain crossing Ireland, Scotland and northern England, with an arrow indicating southeastward movement.
Another frontal rain band sweeps through on Saturday.

The weekend continues the unsettled theme of the week, with a fresh frontal system arriving on Saturday bringing wetter and windier conditions.

Winds begin to pick up from Saturday morning as the front pushes into northern and central UK and Ireland. Widespread gusts of up to 35 mph are expected across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland.

This grow stronger at altitude and near western coasts, with gusts of up to 45 mph at times in the Inner Hebrides. Alongside the winds, a heavy band of rain moves in from the early morning. By the afternoon this begins to break up but still delivers heavy rain at times while moving through England.

Sunday remains unsettled but begins dry for most, with the frontal rain still lingering along southern England to begin the day. Further showers are possible on a generally grey day.

Winds also calm for the day, though quickly regain strength into the new week on Monday as Atlantic weather systems remain influention through the middle of next week.

Temperatures across the weekend are mild, highs of around 23°C in south-east England and widely in the upper-teens and low-20s across the UK and Ireland, though feeling cooler in the winds.

Severe weather hits Mallorca and Italy. Severe thunderstorms. . Weather Videos. Thursday 10 September 2026
Numerous thunderstorms are sweeping across La Palma. The many lightning symbols on the radar and lightning map show that there is heavy lightning activity across large parts of the island. The thunderstorms are striking particularly in the island’s interior and in the south. On the right, you can see the aftermath: a large fallen tree has buried a car beneath it. Emergency services are clearing up the damage. So, along with the thunderstorms, not only heavy rain but also gusts of wind can become a problem.
