Weather trend - Settled for many, though with plenty of cloud and perhaps some patchy rain

Weather trend
Settled for most, some patchy rain

High pressure is set to become more dominant this week, bringing settled and mainly dry weather for most. Some rain may affect the north at times, though.

Over the next couple of days, some rain or drizzle is expected in the western and northern parts of the UK and Ireland.

Elsewhere, however, high pressure will dominate, bringing mainly dry, albeit rather cloudy, weather.

Temperatures meanwhile remain fairly mild overall, especially where any bright or sunny spells develop.

The area of high pressure is then likely to build across most of northwestern Europe later in the week, with generally settled and dry conditions.

As is often the case around this time of the year, there may be some extensive cloud, mist and a few fog patches.

Looking ahead, little change is expected over the weekend and into early next week.

There are however some signals that temperatures may slowly decrease as winds turn to a more northerly direction, with a risk of some chilly nights and ground frost under any clear spells.
