Weather trend: Cooler overall and more changeable, but some warm, sunny spells, too

Weather trend
Cooler overall and more changeable

Low pressure will become more influential again later this week and into next week, setting the stage for some more unsettled weather at times.

Wednesday will see some showers and isolated thunderstorms across the far east and southeast of England as a weather front moves off into the North Sea.

Behind this feature, cooler, fresher Atlantic air will spread across all of northwestern Europe.

It will still be just above average on Thursday though, with lengthy sunny spells in the south. Ireland and parts of Scotland meanwhile are likely to see more cloud and some showers.

Another, larger weather system is then likely to move across Ireland and the UK Friday and into the weekend, with more extensive cloud as well as outbreaks of rain.

Overall, the largest rainfall amounts are expected over western and northern Ireland as well as western Scotland, with other areas seeing some dry and fine spells in between.

Temperatures are likely to be more typical for a British and Irish summer, with daytime highs typically around 20°C or just above, though cooler near western coasts and over higher terrain.

This slightly more unsettled and cooler spell looks set to continue into the early or middle part of next week.

However, there are some indications that very warm conditions may return, particularly to some central and southern areas towards the middle of July.
