Weather outlook - A dull, showery weekend for most

The conditions that ended the working week persist into the weekend too, with gloom and rain for England and Wales, but brighter further north and Ireland.

For those in the north of the UK, there will be spells of sunshine before rain, which arrives from Saturday morning to the south, pushes north later in the day. Where there is sun, it's also colder. Lows around and below freezing in eastern Scotland and north-east England.

Across Ireland, it is generally staying dry, some showers may reach southern areas here too. Overnight, cloud cover gathers ahead of Sunday with temperatures starting chilly but climbing.

Sunday gloom does hold across much of Ireland, with more short showers between glimpses of the sun. Later in the day, more consistent rain moves into western Ireland as winds grow stronger.

Meanwhile, lows climb a little in the UK. Only eastern Scotland sees a return to around freezing with the warmest conditions remaining in southern England, highs only in the mid-teens though.

Remaining calm, for most, outside of western Scotland, with scattered light showers throughout the day.
