Have you put the heating on yet? By Friday morning temperatures will be sub-zero in spots with a patchy frost around.

It's been a crisp start to autumn as arctic air has been flowing in across the UK and Ireland. Temperatures will be tumbling on Thursday night, reaching their lowest all week by Friday morning.

Large portions will see temperatures as low as 3°C, reaching around zero for parts of Northern Scotland.

Even where the air temperature may just hold above zero, a touch of grass frost may be possible.

Things will then warm up from the west by the weekend, as a westerly air flow and warm front brings an increase in temperatures, but also some rain, mainly in the north and west.
