Stretches into Europe too
Poor air quality across England & Wales

Air quality across continental Europe and parts of the UK is poor on Monday.

Air quality is poor to start the week over parts of the UK and Wales, as the poor air stretches over continental Europe.

Easterly winds are bringing a stagnant air mass from continental Europe towards the UK, which has persisted over Europe for days, gradually building pollutants.

Calmer winds across southern regions in recent days also mean that pollutants have been able to settle without being dispersed, as seen over Scotland and Ireland.

Air quality improves from Tuesday with cleaner, arctic air arriving from the north.
