Lowest full moon for decades to come

Tonight, the Strawberry Moon rises and brings a phenomenon that won't be seen again for decades.

June's full moon is set to rise on Tuesday, this year it follows a Major Lunar Standstill, which will see the peak occur remarkably low in the evening sky.

Did you know?

This will be the lowest peak of the moon since 2006, and will not occur again until 2043.

Due to the low peak, the moon will truly live up to its name with an orange-red hue thanks to the longer path for sunlight, which reduces the blue tones.

Visibility for the sight looks set to be best in Wales and much of England. More widespread cloud cover over Ireland is likely to interrupt the view.
