Storm Éowyn expected to bring disruption

Possible danger to life
Storm Éowyn expected to bring disruption

Current model updates confirm Storm Éowyn will bring impactful winds to many parts of the UK and Ireland this Friday.

This system will become exceptionally deep as it approaches Ireland early on Friday, causing severe winds gusting to 180 km/h (110 mph) in Ireland and up to 90 or 100 mph in northern England and Scotland.

These winds are near record values for this area and are likely to cause significant disruption and possible structural damage as well as possible long-lasting power cuts in some areas.

Heavy rainfall, and hill snow in northern England to southern Scotland, also accompany the very strong winds. High waves may also cause some issues along some Irish coasts in particular.

Widespread travel disruption to air and rail is expected, while roads, including some motorways, may be blocked due to falling trees and other debris.

Éowyn becomes the fifth named storm of the 2024/25 storm season.
