Severe flooding struck parts of Hampshire following slow-moving, intense thunderstorms in the area.

Thursday's thunderstorms brought torrential downpours of rain, producing flash flooding in areas that saw heavy showers stall overhead for several hours. You can see how the thunderstorms developed over time on the WeatherRadar below.

Streets and even cars were submerged from the floods in Hook, Winchester as seen above, with major travel disruption as rail networks were closed and many roads also became impassable.

One weather station in Winchester recorded over 31 mm of rain in 3 hours, and over 95 mm in 6 hours. Another in Godstone saw a staggering 58.3 mm in 3 hours.

Alongside the rain, close to 20,000 lightning strikes were recorded between Thursday afternoon and evening across southern and central parts of England, with a few encroaching into Wales earlier in the day too.
