After turning the clocks back an hour last weekend bringing us darker evenings, many people may be suffering from the autumn blues.

Feeling a bit blue this season is perfectly normal, so we want to share some of the symptoms of the autumn blues, why you get it and some tips to help fight them.

The typical symptoms for the autumn blues include: declining motivation, fatigue and increased need for sleep, mood swings, feelings of hopelessness, hunger for sweets and lack of creativity.

These seasonal low moods are often related to the lack of daylight. The body lacks UV light from the sun which stimulates the happy hormone serotonin. Instead, the body creates more melatonin, the sleep hormone causing autumnal fatigue.

There are five things you can try to reduce the feeling of the autumn blues these include:

  • Getting out and about for 30 minutes for some fresh air
  • Call or meet with your friends and socialise
  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet
  • Get your blood pumping and mood raised through some exercise

Don’t let autumn get you down, but if it does, try our tips to see if they can help you.
