Perseids and aurora combine over the UK

The peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower on Monday was joined by widespread auroras in the UK and across Europe.

Clear skies on Monday evening allowed a perfect view for the astronomical show, with the Perseids being one of the most active showers of the year.

Severe geomagnetic storms on Sunday created a perfect combination of Northern Lights and passing meteors.

Aurora activity will diminish rapidly, and it is unlikely that we will see a repeat of Monday's show soon.

While the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower has also passed, they will still be visible up to the end of August. Although, the longer you wait, the fewer there will be.

An approaching full moon will also increase light pollution, making the departing shooting stars even harder to spot. If you are heading out, be sure to check the WeatherRadar for a perfect, cloudless area.
