Preparing the perfect spring garden

Spring gardening

A perfectly pruned garden is idyllic for the summer months and a place of pride for the green-fingered among us.

But, in order to experience a summer garden to be proud of, it is the spring months that need to be used wisely.

Manicured lawns

A well-maintained lawn sets the background for the plants that live surrounding it. But it needs care and attention in order to play its part.

As the temperature increases, leaves need to be removed and bare or weed-infested areas restored.

As the frost clears it is time to give the lawn a going over. Once shoots have grown higher than five centimetres it’s ready for its first cut of the year.

First bulbs of the season

Before planting anything the soil must be prepared. Loosening top soil ensures enough oxygen is absorbed and rain water can make its way into the roots. Compost is then added to help maintain the soil whilst providing nutrients.

There are hundreds of spring flowering options to consider. The daffodil is considered by many to be the quintessential option that is sure to add spark. Tulips and iris both offer pinkish-purple options for a bold look.

Whatever you choose to liven your garden into spring, it is a wonderful time of the year. Full of growth and the great outdoors.
