Breakfast brief
Potential for potent morning storms

Weather map showing heavy rain and thunderstorms over southern England, close to Reading.Potential thunderstorms spread across southern England this Friday.

After a day of drenching rainfall, some areas in southern England may wake up to thundery downpours on Friday morning.

Kickstarting your morning

Welcome to the breakfast brief, offering your daily weather forecast and a sneak peek at the day's news.

Weather outlook

Cells of heavy rain come with accompanying potential for thunderstorms, particularly in the early hours of Friday around Southampton.

It is yet another day of persistent precipitation along the southern coast, particularly heavy in Devon and Cornwall, while the thunderstorm potential moves north through the day.

Elsewhere, it is a largely dry end to the week, with plenty of sun across Ireland and the UK. The band of rain does push slightly north this evening but is dissipating as it moves. Highs for the day will reach up to 25-27°C across England.

What's coming up in the news

Your Friday trend will arrive later this afternoon, ahead of the weekend outlook on Saturday morning.

Plus, the latest collection of user images, and a round-up of some of our summer shots coming tomorrow.
