Polar air is coming
Much colder week for the UK and Ireland

Temperature map of the UK and Ireland dated 20 November, showing widespread cold conditions. Most areas display values around 0°C, with Glasgow at -2°C, Cardiff, and Aberdeen at 1°C. The map is shaded blue across the UK and Ireland, indicating low temperatures.

After a mild start to November, temperatures drop this week across the UK and Ireland, with snow in the forecast too.

Most regions will feel the chill with freezing mornings, likely to result in icy conditions. The polar air also brings widespread snowfall for the first time this season.

It is also getting significantly colder in south-Eastern Europe. From Croatia to Romania, Monday's highs range between 14 and 19 degrees. By the middle of the week, temperatures will only reach single digits.

The cause of the cold air intrusion is a low-pressure system over western Russia. It is directing cold polar air from the far north deep into Southern Europe.
