Make the most of these foggy days

Fog has descended across large parts of Scotland and England this weekend, why not make the most of the conditions?

Using fog in photography has long been used to create an atmosphere of mystery or awe. Horror movies use the effect repeatedly to raise the fear factor.

With a few simple tweaks to your camera or phone, you can capture the mood of the day.

To start with, try playing with the manual focus. Auto-focus tends not to function correctly in thick fog. Once happy, find the sun and seek silhouettes for picturesque captures.

If fog is forecast to remain all day, venture into the night to capture the way lights shine through the haze.

For more experienced photographers be sure to capture all your shots in RAW. That way you can adjust the white balance in editing to help the images pop.
