Low shifts eastwards bringing rain

After an east-west split to end the week, it's all change through the course of the weekend.

High pressure will remain overhead for large portions of the UK into much of Saturday, with plenty of fine, dry weather and temperatures reaching around 17°C.

Outbreaks of rain and brisk winds will continue in the west however, with Ireland seeing some heavy spells, perhaps thundery furthest south around Cork during the afternoon.

Brisk winds will accompany the rain too, widely gusting 30 - 40 mph across Ireland and Northern Ireland, peaking at around 50 mph locally along the exposed southern coast, primarily between Cork and Waterford during the evening.

Heading through the evening, the low out in the west looks to squeeze the high further eastwards out the way, giving way to more widely unsettled weather as the band of rain tracks east from Ireland.

Rain will continue to progress eastward overnight, albeit losing some intensity and fragmenting as it does so. Blustery across western fringes of the UK, but winds otherwise moderating.

Sunday will then be left with a fair amount of cloud and light showery spells of rain to start the day.

Later however, rain looks to intensify with some sharp and possibly downpours expected for parts of England and Wales.

Meanwhile skies will be clearing across Ireland and beneath the sunshine temperatures could be hitting 18°C in Dublin. A mild day on the whole across the board, though a wet one for much of the UK.
