Live updates
Storm Jocelyn takes over from Isha

Wind map
The strongest wind gusts arrive overnight on the WindRadar, particularly for those in westerly areas.

Storm Jocelyn is rapidly approaching, as fallout from Storm Isha continues to unfold across the UK and Ireland.

Look ahead to tonight

The peak of Jocelyn's winds is expected from 6 pm tonight, with the strength of the winds persisting overnight and into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Wind gusts are expected to reach 55 - 65 mph across parts of Scotland, Northern England and coastal parts of Ireland. Along western coastal fringes of these areas, winds could reach 60 - 70 mph, with localised gusts above this not out of the question.

Expect possible power cuts in the area of strongest winds, with travel disruption expected to continue. Secure any loose outdoor furniture and stay away from coastal areas where large waves will batter the coastline. The rain on the other hand, will tend to ease later.

03.30 pm update

Aberdaron has just recorded a peak gust of 69 mph so far. Winds and waves are also picking up along western coastal areas.

02.30 pm update

Transport links continue to be affected today, high-speed ferries between the Isle of Wight and Southampton have been suspended due to the gusty conditions. Slower ferries are still running for now, with southern England set to miss the most severe impacts of Jocelyn later today.

After felled trees resulted in fatalities amid Storm Isha, the RAC has again urged drivers not to travel unless necessary and to avoid parking under trees where possible.

With flood alerts currently in force as heavy rain falls over large parts of the UK, here’s a quick refresh on flash flood safety.

02.00 pm update

Winds are starting to pick up, especially along coastal areas. So far South Uist has recorded the top gust of 68 mph, with gusts in other exposed locations starting to reach above 50 mph.

Around 30 flood warnings are currently in place across England and Scotland.

11.30 am update

TransPennine Express, for northern England and southern Scotland, has issued a Do Not Travel notice after 3 pm today. After 7 pm all trains in Scotland are to be cancelled. Flight cancellations are also already underway.

The Met Office has issued a new weather warning for heavy rain in Wales as 40 - 50 mm of rain could fall. There is also an amber warning in force for wind across northern and western Scotland with the chance of gusts locally reaching up to 80 mph after 6 pm.

10.45 am update

At least five people are now confirmed to have passed away due to conditions caused by Storm Isha. With three confirmed in Ireland and another two in Scotland and Northern Ireland. All of whom were in vehicles.

Flooding struck York among other locations, while felled trees caused widespread travel issues on road and rail.

Around 57,000 properties are still without power in Ireland after feeling the impact of Isha on Sunday.

Jocelyn outlook

Despite the rainy start for most, Storm Jocelyn will not begin to make a real impact until later this evening.

Widespread winds of 40 - 50 mph are expected, 50 - 60 mph more widely across northern and western Scotland, and locally 70 - 80 mph for exposed and elevated areas.

Clusters of thunderstorms are visible on the WeatherRadar over parts of western and southern Scotland this evening.

We will bring you updates throughout the day on the latest events.
