Italy's extreme weather
Updates from the scene

After days of rainfall, the weather situation over northern Italy is starting to clear. Our Italian team has been on the ground collecting footage of the events.

The regions of Emilia-Romagna and Marche both suffered from severe flooding from Tuesday resulting in at least eight casualties so far.

Thousands have been displaced from their properties because of the situation, many of which will face becoming homeless in the aftermath as at least 15 rivers breached their banks.

The situation led to Formula 1 officially cancelling the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, which was due to take place over this weekend. Read more on this below.

Local figures suggest some areas received half of their expected average rainfall in just a 36-hour period at the start of the week.

Rainfall has now eased, although some areas will see fresh bouts of heavy rain into the weekend. See for yourself on the RainfallRadar.
