For a long time, Hurricane Polo has been moving along the west coast of Mexico, bringing stormy weather and rain without its centre making landfall. It is now changing course and heading straight for the Baja California Peninsula.

During the night leading up to Tuesday, the cyclone will make landfall with wind gusts exceeding 125 mph, waves up to 10 metres high and torrential rain. Among other things, there is a high risk of flash floods and landslides.

Polo is not the only cyclone in the Pacific at the moment: Nolo is currently skirting the southern coast of Hawaii, whilst off the south-west coast of Mexico, Tropical Storm Rachel is set to intensify into a hurricane shortly. In the Western Pacific, Typhoon Surigae is likely to pass just wide of Japan.
