Many regions across Europe have been waiting for rain for weeks. From the Iberian Peninsula through France to the UK and Denmark, the ground is parched in many places.

Strong winds are also causing a tense situation in some areas. Where fires break out, they can spread rapidly. As a result, the highest forest fire alert level is once again in force in some parts of the French Mediterranean coast, amongst other places.

There is little sign of rain in many regions over the coming days either. The dry spell is set to continue. Only in parts of Eastern Europe will the long-awaited rain finally bring some relief.
