Heavy rain spreads widely across the UK and Ireland today, with outbreaks of snow set to follow, particularly for those in the north of Scotland.

Temperatures begin the day below zero across Scotland, and hovering around 0°C in parts of northern England, including Newcastle. Much warmer in the south, with some areas of the southern coast seeing highs of around 11°C at the same time.
