A band of heavy rain will be making its way eastwards through the day, particularly heavy across south-west Scotland.

Through Tuesday, a cold front will be bringing a narrow band of heavy and persistent rain edging west to east.

Rain is expected to be heaviest across south-west Scotland, particularly east of Stranraer, where up to 40 mm of rain is possible widely, and locally up to 60 mm over exposed hills, leading to a risk of flooding here.

Blustery winds are also expected widely, these strongest across western portions and through Irish Sea coasts where gusts may locally reach around 50 mph.

By the early afternoon the worst of the winds and rain should begin easing, though still working its way through the rest of England and Wales.

As the rain progresses eastwards it should lose some intensity by evening, tending to dissipate around the Midlands, leaving the south-east largely dry and clear.
