Parts of western and south-western Europe are still experiencing unusually hot weather for the end of May.

In France, several monthly records have been broken. The highest temperature was 37.8 degrees in Angoulême-La Couronne, north of Bordeaux.

Spain, too, continues to suffer from the heatwave. Even in the north of the country, temperatures of between 32 and 38 degrees were recorded in many places. Such high temperatures are far from common for the end of May. More than 30 deaths in Spain have already been linked to the heatwave.

Whilst temperatures are already starting to drop in northern Spain, Andalusia in particular is still set to see temperatures of nearly 40 degrees. Over the coming days, it will also gradually get cooler in western and central Europe.

The change in the weather is bringing heavy thunderstorms to Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria, accompanied in some places by heavy rain, hail and gusts of wind.
