Breakfast brief
Gusts and rain as Herminia wanes

Storm Herminia brings gusting winds to much of the UK and Ireland with swirling rainfall persisting through the day.

Kickstarting your day

Welcome to the Breakfast Brief, your first forecast for the day and a chance to catch up on what you may have missed.

Weather outlook

Plenty of rain around the UK and Ireland as the brushing impact from Storm Herminia continues. A major incident was declared in Somerset on Monday due to flooding, as this storm added to that of Éowyn last week.

There are gusting winds also, away from Scotland but widespread. Most acutely felt in southern Ireland and the south-west of England with gusts reaching up to 55 mph in Falmouth, and up to 50 mph in Cork and Tralee.

These may be stronger in coastal areas too. Temperatures are generally mild for the time of year, reaching up to 9°C around London.
