Freezing start for some on a cloudy day

Temperature radar showing sub-zero temperatures in Scotland. A freezing morning across Scotland and parts of Ireland.

Temperatures are sub-zero in Scotland this morning, on a day mostly featuring overcast skies and the last of the weekend's winds.

Kickstarting your morning

Welcome to the Breakfast Brief, offering your first look at the day's forecast.

Weather outlook

A chilly and dull day as high pressure settles over the UK and Ireland. It is particularly cold across Scotland, with lows of -5°C this morning in Aberdeen and -4°C in Glasgow, where the day's high is just -1°C. Elsewhere, highs of around 7°C in parts of England and eastern Ireland.

Cloud cover masks the sky to start the day, clearing partially over eastern Scotland and the north-west of England in the build-up to midday. Light rain in south-east England and the Midlands, dry in all other areas.

South-west England, around Plymouth, still see gusts reach 30 mph, but things settle down across the country by this evening.
