France records smashed
Hottest September day in history

TemperatureRadar in SW FranceTemperatures exceeded 40C on September 12th 2022

France has just recorded its hottest September day in history, with 40.7C at Bégaar.

Whilst autumn is attempting to get underway across some parts of the world, summer is making a strong comeback in France, with Europe reported to have already experienced its hottest summer on record.

Alongside the 40.7C recorded at Bégaar, southwestern France on September 12th, three other stations also soared above 40C, additionally breaking over 100 monthly temperature records.

The hot weather began a few days prior where temperatures first started climbing into the thirties, before soaring to the forties. Temperatures are forecast to be over 15C above average in the south-west, and as consequence, wildfires are igniting.

The intense heat is expected to persist until around the 15th of the month, before a northerly airflow then delivers cooler air, with temperatures plummeting in comparison.
